DON'T FORGET WORLDWIDE INDEXING EVENT THIS WEEKEND (July 20-21, 2014)

Join the Worldwide Indexing Event

WorldwideIndexingEventBlog
On July 2, 2012, a total of 49,025 FamilySearch indexers and arbitrators joined together to set the all-time record for the most indexing participants in a single day. That lofty record is about to be broken—by you!
Join volunteers from around the world on July 20 and 21 for an international history-making event! The goal? For 50,000 indexers and arbitrators to submit at least one batch in a 24-hour period! Do more if you would like, but one batch is all that is required to be counted in the record!
This remarkable goal will require help from every current indexer and arbitrator out there, plus many new volunteers,*but it can be achieved if generous volunteers like you commit to participate. So mark your calendar and spread the word! Invite friends and family to join you. Organize an indexing party; create a fun family challenge or a society or church service project. Everyone is needed. Everyone can make a difference!
No matter where you live or what language you speak, you can participate and add to this historic worldwide achievement. You may choose to work on any project you prefer. However, we suggest that you work on the following projects in your native language:
  • US—Obituaries, 1980–2014
  • US—Passport Applications, 1795-1925
  • US, New Orleans—Passenger Lists, 1820-1902
  • UK, Manchester—Parish Registers, 1787-1999
The record-setting begins at 00:00 coordinated universal time (UTC) on July 21, which is 6:00 p.m. mountain daylight time (MDT or Utah time) on Sunday, July 20. It ends 24 hours later, at 23:59 UTC (or 5:59 p.m. MDT) on Monday, July 21. Through the selfless efforts of worldwide volunteers like you, millions of people have found their ancestors. At the end of this exciting 24-hour event, millions more records will be available and ancestors will be found!
One batch is all it takes. Don’t miss your chance on July 20 and 21 to be part of this history-making event! Plan now to get involved and add your name to the record-setting legacy!
*New indexers can visit https://familysearch.org/indexing/ to learn more about how to join the FamilySearch indexing effort.

New Offerings from FamilySearch

Millions of Historic Records Added for Belgium, China, Philippines, and the U.S.

More Completed State Indexes Now Searchable Online for the 1940 US Census
FamilySearch published new, free records online for Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, England, Georgia, Indonesia, Italy, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. The 1940 US Census Community Project continues to progress quickly. Online volunteers have now indexed 80 million names out of the historic 1940 census. Follow the progress online or search the 20 completed states at FamilySearch.org/1940census.  BillionGraves also contributed about a million indexed records. Search these diverse collections and 2.8 billion other records for free at FamilySearch.org.
Searchable historic records on FamilySearch.org are made available by thousands of online volunteers from around the world who transcribe (index) information from digital copies of handwritten records to make them easily searchable online. More online volunteers are needed (particularly those who can read foreign languages) to keep pace with the amount of digital images being published online at FamilySearch.org. Learn more about how to personally help provide free access to the world’s historic genealogical records online as a volunteer indexer at FamilySearch.org.

Internet Access Marching Forward!

ldstemplephotos.blogspot.com
This year the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is making a big push to get the Internet into more of it's church buildings around the world. Buildings in the United States and Canada have more Internet access at the moment, but the Church is now working diligently to get Internet access into buildings in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America. Poor infrastructure hampers the technology in some countries, but the church is working to help solve that problem. (LDS Tech Conference, 2011) Think of the power of this technology in terms of family history work!  Imagine going into a Family History Center in Cape Town, South Africa and being able to access everything available to those patrons in Salt Lake City, Utah! What a blessing!

Indexing is providing FamilySearch with new records at a rapidly expanding pace. If you want to become part of the team indexing millions of records a year, consider indexing. Go to indexing.familysearch.org if you are interested!

Do You Like Genealogy? Would You Like to Serve Your Fellow Man?

FamilySearch Indexing
Think INDEXING! FamilySearch Indexing is always looking for volunteers to index the world's records! You don't have to be a member of the LDS Church to do this. You just have to have access to a computer, 30 minutes of time, and a willing heart! FamilySearch has indexed 1.5 billion records since 2006. Think of what it would be like to find a record of YOUR ancestor! Seeing a census record with your grandparents listed on it could send chills down your spine! Wouldn't that be great? We all belong to the great family of man. Come help put the puzzle together. So far this year, volunteers have indexed more than 45 million records. The goal is 220 million more records this year. There are a variety of records to index. If you know a language, there's probably an international record that you could help with! Go to FamilySearch Indexing and click on "Get Started" on the right hand side of the page. In 30 minutes or less, you will be hooked! Click to see the Current FamilySearch Indexing Projects that you can help with!
