Family History Education

Did you know that family history education is only a few keystrokes away? You may be thinking that you don't live in Utah and therefore, can't take advantage of the world class Family History Library. Well, there may be some things that might be missed, but with the ability to connect remotely to the library for classes and such, your excused for not doing family history are dwindling! :)

FamilySearch.org has a great wealth of information and education. One of my favorite places is the FamilySearch Wiki. When I don't know how to help a patron, or when I'm starting research in a new place, the Wiki is my first stop.

FamilySearch posts it's list of webinars (past and upcoming) in the FamilySearch Wiki. There are other ways to get this information, but this link might turn out to be a gold mine for you! What I love about it is that even if I can't attend a webinar I can still get my hands on the handouts. I know we live in the land of the Internet, but sometimes a piece of instructional paper can feel so friendly and familiar in our hands! That's why I love their handouts!

Take some time and check out the FamilySearch Wiki. You might just find a new best friend!

Free Webinar US Research Series: United States Military Records—October 11, 2014

LET FREEDOM RING!

David Dilts, AG. will be presenting a class on using United States Military Records to help document the lives of our ancestors. The class is on Saturday, October 11, 2014. This should be a great class as military records contain some great information to help us round out our ancestors lives. We had some horrendous military conflicts in the 20th century and I, for one, am very grateful for those individuals who answered the call to action. I am very aware that my freedom was paid for by many self-sacrificing individuals, including some of my ancestors. For information about this class, click here.

Need Genealogy Education???

I chose this pedigree because my daughter-in-law is a huge Harry Potter fan! Maybe now she will become interested in family history! :)
Below is the schedule for webinars through August 2012 at LegacyFamilyTree. I love these webinars (no, I'm not paid to say this and I don't have any affiliation with the company except as a fan!) because I can sit at home in my jammies and soak it all in! The nice thing about these webinars is that they are usually posted for free for ten days so that you can catch them even if you miss the original date!

GeneaWebinars-A Brand New Site!!!

Do you know what a webinar is? This may seem like a dumb question, but I am still running into people who haven't even heard the term before! A webinar is basically an online seminar. In other words, for me (and hopefully you!) it is a place to gain more education about a particular topic. Lucky for us, there is a new website devoted to webinars about genealogy. The site just went live last week and I was fortunate to learn about it from DearMYRTLE herself! A big thanks to DearMYRTLE and colleagues for putting this together so that we can have all of the genealogy webinars listed on a calendar in one place! The cool thing is that there are live webinars, on-demand webinars, and archived webinars. Definitely something for everybody! If you look at the speaker list so far, it reads like a who's who of the genealogy world. To take a peak at what is coming up, click on the link above and scroll down to the Google Calendar. If you are interested in a class, click on the link in the calendar and follow the instructions given. How I love technology!!!
